It was a moist evening on the 16th of June 1988 when the three of them Er. V R U Menon, Ar. K.M. Nair and Ar. Francis Chandy met on the Convent Road. Talking casually, they drifted towards the need for a joint association of Architects and Engineers which would foster better friendship and understanding by pi oviding a common platform where matters of technical and bilateral interest could be discussed. The aims and objectives have since undergone further modifications to embrace all the disciplines of graduate engineers. Thus the seed was sown for a unique association and the first meeting was held on 3rd August 1988, attended by 9 members - Ar. K.M. Nair, Er. S.J. Mathew, Ar. Francis Chandy, Er. V R U Menon, Er. P.U. Davis, Er. R. Balan, Er. V.P. Mohanan, Er. Varghese Jacob and Er. James Alappatt. On 29th March1989,Societies Act X11 of 1955 with Registration No.208, the Association got its registration under Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act.
The formal Inauguration of the Assn. was held on 9th June 1989 at the Sahitya Academy Hall ,TCR and Er. S.J.Mathew was chosen unanimously as the Founder President. During the period of Er.K.M.Raju (late) as President ,decision was taken to purchase a plot for the Assn. in October 1992.A Musical Evening of Play Back Singer Mrs.K.S.CHITRA was organised for fund raising under the leadership of Er.T.G.RAVI. A Life Membership Scheme was also introduced. On 23rd November 1993 ,the Foundation Stone was laid for the building by Sri.K.Karunakaran,the then Chief Minister of Kerala.Ar.Francis Chandy ,President of AEA drafted the scheme for the Bldg.The dream to have an own Bldg. for AEA has come true on 23rd November1997 by inaugurating the Technical Library Bldg. by Er.K.M.RAJU.The bldg. has a total Plinth Area of 350.85sq.m and a Carpet Area of 264.04sq.m in three floors.
